Freecycle.org has 5,104 groups with 9,419,604 members and counting across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns and thus keeping good stuff out of landfills.
Our local Evansville group has 2433 members. Recent FREE items were a smoker, dining room set, beds, bricks, tickets to plays, and toys. It is a group of good people trying to help others out, and make the world a better place. Make sure we help to keep it honest and clean.
It is free to join, free to post, and everything offered must be FREE, legal, and appropriate for all ages. You must join your local chapter, and can do so HERE.

Craigslist.org
Craigslist was started back in 1995 by Craig Newmark. What started as a simple list of events in San Francisco has morphed into a monster of over 700 local sites in 70 countries, pulling in 50 BILLION page views every month. There are over 60 million users in the US each month alone!
It's now more of a place where you can buy and sell anything...and I do mean anything...as well as rant about whatever rumples your crump. Craigslist also list community events, job postings, and services. I love the grid view when looking for a unique piece of furniture or obscure antique.
One word of caution: BE SMART (ok, two words). I'm sure we have all heard about the "Craigslist Killer". Just be sensible. If you a young female, don't go to pickup back issues of Playboys at midnight in someone's garage, or fall for meeting the guy in the parking lot of Walmart to get the newest version of the iphone for $30.
